About Jessie

Hi! I’m Jessie and I am very excited that you’re here! Here is some info about me:

Background: I began my fitness career in highschool as a part-time gig in 2002 at a local box gym. I gave orientations to members, demonstrated how to use the equipment safely, kept the gym floor clean. Shortly after, I became a certified personal trainer and fitness instructor, training clients part time while working on my business undergrad at the University of Toronto. When I graduated in 2007, I was deciding between starting my own personal training business, or pursuing a steady, full time career in a corporate job. I thought that I couldn’t make a living in fitness and wanted a steady, secure paycheck, so I chose the latter. Feeling content that I could climb the corporate ladder while doing fitness classes on the side, “for fun,” I worked in various areas within the finance industry, from investment advising, to portfolio management, equity trading, and insurance underwriting. 7 years later, after attempting CFA level 3 for the 2nd time, my husband, Joe, and I, decided to sell our condo, move in with his mom temporarily until our new house was built, and quit our jobs (Joe was a  CGA/CPA – accountant). The big trigger was from the passing of Joe’s father after 8 years of battling 4 types of cancers, and our passion for fitness and health resurfacing after years of being suppressed by the 9-5 grind. We realized that life was too short and that being happy, healthy, and not cheating yourself from what you could potentially become was worth the temporary sacrifices being made. Now, I train private clients and teach small group yoga classes in my home gym in Cornell Markham, alongside my husband, Joe, a registered massage therapist. We are blessed to be able to work at home and spend time with our kids, Harley, born in 2018, and our Shih Tzu, Loki, whom we took home in 2017.

Outside of yoga and lifting weights, I love to hike, rock climb, and one of my goals is to do as many of the 7 summits as I can. Kilimanjaro has been checked off my list!

  1. Hi Jessie,
Thanks so much for your posting on why you want to teach. It is powerful, and it accounts for why you are such a great teacher and role model.
In yoga class, I was at the back as usual, trying to fly below the radar…Anyway, you came by and adjusted the pose I was attempting….What you didn’t know was that I had been experiencing terrible lower back pain; however, after you adjusted the pose, the pain just disappeared….I tried to send you a message before, entitled, “How do you spell lower back relief? Y-O-G-A!” Thanks again Jessie, and keep up the good work. You are an amazing teacher!

  2. Wishing you all the success and happiness in the world for you and your new adventure in life.
